What Are European Odds? Complete Guide to Understanding and Reading European Odds

European odds are one of the most commonly used betting formats and are especially popular among both beginners and experienced players. Knowing how to read and analyze European odds correctly is essential if you want to make smart betting decisions. So, what exactly are European odds, and how can you interpret them effectively to boost your chances of winning? In this article, Wintips will guide you through everything you need to know about European odds. Let’s dive in!

WHAT ARE EUROPEAN ODDS?

European odds, also commonly known as 1×2 odds, are a type of betting odds that you can easily find on bookmakers' odds boards. European odds are considered easy to understand and simple to play. Unlike Asian handicap odds, which involve point spreads, or Over/Under bets, which focus on total goals, European odds require you only to choose one of three possible outcomes.

In European odds, bookmakers provide three different odds, corresponding to three possible match results: home team wins, draw, or away team wins. To place a bet, you simply select one of these three options. The way to read European odds is also very straightforward, as you don’t need to worry about the exact score. Instead, you only need to focus on the final result after 90 minutes of official play.

DETAILED GUIDE TO READING EUROPEAN ODDS

As explained above, European odds consist of three betting options, each corresponding to a different match outcome: home team win, draw, or away team win. However, to read European odds properly, you must understand the symbols and how these odds are displayed on the betting board.

How to Read European Odds on the Betting Board

On the bookmaker's odds board, European odds are displayed as 1×2. The home team is listed at the top, while the away team is placed below. The third row shows the word "Draw", which represents a tie between the two teams.

Many people often wonder why in some matches, the team at the top is highlighted in red, while in others, the highlighted team is at the bottom. In reality, the red-marked team is the favorite (stronger) team, as assessed by the bookmaker 100.
