Diablo IV Developers Discuss Character Customization

0 oy
In the modern era of gaming, players are looking for every possible way to see the heroes/villains they play reflected in the video games they play. Character customization tools across the industry have grown in size and scope over the years, and for Blizzard and the spearhead of one of the Diablo franchises, pressure from players and the media is to maintain or exceed what is currently possible. from their competitors. Recently, a pair of senior Diablo IV developers, lead class designer Adam Jackson and producer Ash Sweetring, spoke to Australian outlet Press-Start to discuss adding extended character customization to Diablo IV in June. In an interview with Press-Start, Jackson and Sweetring talked about the prospect of expanded character customization for the first time and more coming soon, saying,

We've put in a lot of hard work to make sure character customization is as robust as possible. I can't really give anything away, but the list of things we want to do is long and we're always adding more. Having this game as a live service is a good thing. Everyone on the team has a lot of ideas - "Wouldn't this be cool?" We're definitely going to put a ton of these ideas in the launch version of the game, but we've got a backlog of stuff we want to do that we already know will be cooler , so we need to leave space.

"The player also sort of controls the content of the game, right? We don't just make games ourselves. Diablo IV isn't Blizzard's first Arena when it comes to building live-service games. The team has a lot of experience making games and making games with the community over a long period of time. We've done that in World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. You say it. We've done it before. Many of the things we decide to prioritize will be based on player feedback. If they really want a certain type of feature, we can decide to do that first and then do all the other stuff we care about because we know players really want that and we're willing to do it."

I think it's part of growing up. We want to continue to iterate and make Diablo IV the best it can be. We always have the opportunity to look back and ask, 'How could we improve on it? What can we do better? What are people asking for? What are our needs at this time? What we want to do is constantly changing. We're always looking at what we can do and what we can improve.
